LAURIE GRUNDT – CHAOS PILOT
- It was as though one or more demons had been let loose. So much ugliness, filth and horror, would normally be difficult to find collected in one spot… A lot of scrubbing will be needed if Bergen’s Art Society is ever to be made clean again, could be read in an article in the local newspaper after one of his exhibitions. Laurie was 76 when this film was made, and just as active and socially aware as when he in -66 and -70 managed to infuriate the respectable citizens of Bergen with his exhibitions.

Laurie discovered a stimulating milieu in Copenhagen and Christiania. There were so many cultural facilities that Bergen didn’t have. There were three topics in which he was especially interested: sex, politics and religion. The film is built around these topics and his move from “provincial” Bergen to Christiania, and then back again. In November -99, Laurie presented his birthplace with an exhibition – “The body – in and out of season”.

The film shows a strong, yet paradoxical personality, who has chosen to live for his art, rather than to achieve fame and wealth. He not only paints, he writes poetry and plays, directs and acts in short films. He also plays the fiddle and tap-dances – simultaneously.

Laurie Grundt – Chaos Pilot was shown on TV2 in 2001 and was part of the official programme for the Cultural City of Bergen 2000 event.

Programme length: 50 min.
